Folding saws often come with a lock closed and a lock open mechanism. Always lock a saw before using it to make a cut or returning it to your bag.

Whenever you want to cut a piece of wood always try to hang it over a stump or raised platform and keep it as horizontal to the ground as possible. Propping a piece of wood up against a surface at a 45-degree angle to cut, will cause the wood to pinch in on itself, making the job much harder than it needs to be. 

Cutting horizontally will allow gravity to slowly pull open the cut whilst you saw through it, this will stop the wood from pinching and gripping the saw blade, thus making the cut much easier to get through.

Cross your arm over the blade when starting a cut, that way if the blade slips you won’t run it across your fingers making for a very unpleasant and uncomfortable wound. With your arm crossed over, if the saw blade slips out of the notch you are cutting, you are likely to hit your arms together first before the blade has chance to get anywhere near your hands/skin.
