Response

Check for a response; ask name; squeeze shoulders.

  • No response - Send for help
  • Response - make patient comfortable, check for injuries & monitor

Send for help

Call for an ambulance

Airway

Open mouth and check airway for an obstructions

  • If foreign matter is present place in recovery position
  • Clear airway with finger
  • Open airway by tilting head with a chin lift

Breathing

Check for breathing. Look. Listen and feel

Normal breathing

  • Place in recovery position
  • Monitor breathing
  • Manage injuries
  • Treat for shock

Not normal breathing

  • Start CPR

CPR

Start CPR. 30 chest compressions then 2 breaths, continue until patient recovers or help arrives.
