Unlocked Common mallow, Malva sylvestris

Uses:

The leaves when picked young are very glutinous, they can be used in soup to thicken it. The roots can be boiled until thick and used to make marshmallows

When and where to find it: 

Usually seen in Spring and Summer. It grows quite happily on roadsides and waste ground on well-drained soil. Often near the coast.

Other Observations: 

A tall, sprawling plant, it can grow up to 100cm. It has branched hairy stems. Stalks are long and has rounded lobed leaves. It can get clusters of pale to dark pink flowers.
