Uses:

Stir fry young shoots and use them in salads or in place of asparagus. You can eat the tender tips raw in salads, though the small sticky hairs may irritate your throat. It’s always best to fry or boil them fist. The seeds can be used to make coffee.

When and where to find it: 

The leaves are best fresh in the Spring before the plant seeds. It can be found in wasteland, hedgerows, woodland and shingles.

Other Observations: 

A scrambling annual plant, its supported by other plants. Its four cornered stems have hooked bristles making it appear ‘sticky’. It has a few names, Cleavers, Goose grass, Sticky willy.
